Manteca High’s girls golf team has come a long ways since the start of the season.

On Wednesday, the Buffaloes posted their best round of the season in a 259-334 victory over Weston Ranch at Manteca Park Golf Course. They improved to 4-6 in the Valley Oak League.

Manteca opened the season with a 303 score and followed that up with its worst, 315, at its home course. The team was coming off narrow losses to Sierra and Kimball, losing to them by three- and one-stroke margins, respectively.

“The girls have been putting the work in,” Manteca coach Dave Asuncion said. “We hadn’t broke 270 yet and we just skipped 260 today.”

Katie Hankins was medalist with a season-best 46 on the par-37 front nine. Kaylie Grimes finished with a 48. Dominique Graham and freshman Sarah Vegas scored 53s, while Isabella Garcia-Mendez rounded out the team score with a 59.

Weston Ranch’s Sarah Strambler just missed earning a league point in the individual standings, finishing with a 60.
