Manteca sophs take down EU in three

East Union High’s sophomore volleyball team battled tough at its own Dalben Center, but crosstown rival Manteca prevailed in three games — 25-18, 19-25, 15-7.

Mia Ramirez anchored the win for the Buffaloes (8-3 Valley Oak League, 11-4 overall) with seven kills, 11 service points and three aces. Jimi Guibor hammered out five of her own kills.

Jessica Reeder dished out 23 assists, and Breanne Hatfield chimed in with eight points and three aces.

Kristen Piasecki led the Squires (3-9, 10-11) with seven digs and four assists. Also contributing were Alex Scopas with three aces, Alison Telles with seven digs, Lauren Ferguson with two kills and Aliysa Hoffman with two blocks.

Ceres 2, Sierra 0
In Ceres, Stephanie Davis churned out four digs and six service points for the Timberwolves (4-7), who dropped 19-25 and 21-25 games.

Jessica Campa pounded down six kills to lead East Union’s sweep (25-15, 25-13).

Katie Hilscher added two kills and three aces; Kayla Lamont turned in seven aces and three assists; and Mariah Burrola handed out six assists.
