Manteca High’s girls basketball team crushed visiting West of Tracy 63-26 on Tuesday for its first win of the season.
The Buffaloes (1-4), who faced stiff competition in their busy opening week, got untracked early, exploding for 27 points in the first quarter before carrying a 41-14 lead into halftime.
“Our defense looked good and it was a great team effort,” said Manteca coach MaryAnn Tolbert, adding that the Buffs committed just four turnovers in the first half and 11 for the game.
Sydnee Fryer poured in 23 points, six rebounds and seven steals. Leah Manuleleua contributed 12 points, and Elizabeth Tolbert grabbed eight rebounds to go with four assists.
Brenna Claus had 10 points for West (1-3).
Manteca heads to Sonora next Monday.

MODESTO — The Lancers (3-0) scored at least 21 points in each of the first three quarters while dominating on the defensive end to enforce a running clock.
Olivia Vezaldenos paced East Union with 21 points and four assists. Ruby Daube added 16 points, three assists and three steals. Donja Payne recorded nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Lania Taylor chipped in seven points and 10 boards.
East Union hits the road again next Monday and Tuesday when it faces Downey and Tracy, respectively.

Kayla Montoya spearheaded a balanced scoring effort with nine points. Nicole Noble, Mariah James and Vonika Pok added six apiece.

Host Grace Davis had three of its seven available players foul out midway through the third quarter, and the officials ended the game prematurely in early in the fourth.
Nina Murphy amassed 21 points for East Union, which collected 26 steals. Jaidyn Valencia contributed eight points and six rebounds.
