Manteca volleyball downs LHS

The Manteca High boys volleyball team pounded visiting Lathrop in a 25-22, 25-19, 25-10 victory on Monday for its fifth straight victory.

The Buffaloes are now 2-0 in the Valley Oak League and 6-2 overall but have a challenging stretch ahead. They have back-to-back matches on the road starting with Kimball on Wednesday. Weston Ranch awaits on Thursday. Both teams are also unbeaten in league play.

Manteca dominated with its towering front line Monday. Kylan Chandler registered eight kills and three blocks to go with three blocks. Cameron Reis (five kills, four blocks) and 6-foot-7 basketball standout Tydus Verhoeven (five kills, three blocks) also keyed the win.

After two competitive sets, the Buffs rumbled to a sweep thanks to long service runs from Johnny Borres (15 assists) and Oswaldo Garcia, who combined for 17 points.

 

Kimball 3, Sierra 0

TRACY — The Timberwolves (0-4, 1-14) couldn’t get untracked at the start and were swept 9-25, 22-25, 14-25.

Diego Gracia finished with five assists and five digs. Rene Lopez contributed two kills and two aces.

STOCKTON — The Manteca girls 4x100 team of Olga Perez, Julie Moreno, Abigail Arias and Kaley Miller held off Lincoln to win the race in 53.03 seconds. All four Buffaloes are freshmen.

Moreno was also the winner in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 1 minute, 02.58 seconds. 

 

Freshman baseball

East Union 7, Kimball 6

Andrew Oliveras drove in a pair of runs and struck out six in in two relief innings, helping the host Lancers (3-1, 6-4 overall) fend off Kimball in VOL action Monday.

Starting pitcher Marcus Sequeira pitched five innings and fired seven strikeouts. Jamari Milligan went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
