Fifteen up, 15 down.

Peyton Rose and the Manteca softball team made quick work of Sonora Wednesday. She struck out eight of the 15 batters she saw in a five-inning perfect game, and the Buffaloes doled out 15 hits for a second straight game in a 22-0 rout of the host Wildcats.

Manteca (1-0 Valley Oak League, 7-3 overall) continued to garner momentum for Friday’s rivalry showdown with East Union, going into the contest having won six straight.

The tone was set early Wednesday, as Manteca jumped out with four runs in the top of the first and scratched across 10 more in the second. The rest was a formality as the Buffs continued to rake away.

Celina Cooper pummeled a three-run homer, finishing with five RBIs and two runs in a 3-for-4 effort. Freshman Morgan Miramontes was also 3 for 4, adding three RBIs. Aryanna Martinez reached on all five of her plate appearance, finishing 3 for 3 with two walks, two doubles and three RBIs.

Manteca hosts East Union Friday starting at 4. East Union’s VOL opener at Kimball was cancelled Wednesday.

Sierra 5, Oakdale 0

Oakdale (0-1, 3-5-1) is the reigning VOL champion and winners of four of the last five crowns. Wednesday’s league opener may have represented a passing of the torch. The undefeated Timberwolves (1-0, 10-0) made a statement with the road win behind standout pitcher Allison Walljasper, who fired 13 strikeouts to no walks to highlight a three-hit gem.  Sierra is currently 14th in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Writers’ Poll.

Iyana Hughes led offensively with a 3-for-3 effort, a triple and two runs. Lexus Barnes was 2 for 2 with a run, and Sommer Wilson belted a triple and had two RBIs.

Southern League

Turlock Christian 9, Ripon Christian 7 (9)

Ripon Christian tied the game at 6-all in the sixth inning, but couldn’t undo the damage it created in the first inning.

The Eagles improved to 4-5 and won their first Southern League game, edging Shelby Vrieling and the Knights in nine innings.

Ripon Christian committed three errors in the opening frame that helped stake Turlock Christian to a four-run lead.

Two games removed from her perfect game, Vrieling gave up nine runs on nine hits in nine innings.
