Marin brothers lead Manteca past Modesto

It took a while to get going at Lincoln Park Thursday, but once the Manteca frosh-soph soccer team kicked it into gear, it was lights out.

Giovanni and Ricardo Marin both scored a pair of goals as the Buffaloes went on a decisive 4-0 scoring streak in the final 12 minutes of the first half and cruised to a 6-1 win.

Charlton Shankar and Nacho Valdovinos both found net for the Buffs as well.

Sophomore

Tracy 2, Sierra 1

Alison Armstrong had six service points (3 aces), and Stephanie Davis chipped in eight service points and an ace, but it wouldn’t be enough as Tracy came back to claim the season-opening win, 23-25, 25-18, 15-8.

Sierra travels to Edison Tuesday.

Manteca 2, Franklin 0

A number of Buffaloes produced for Bridgett Madden in Manteca’s first win, 31-29, 25-21.

Mia Ramirez had four kills and three digs, Myklyn Balmut had four kills and two blocks, and Jimi Guibor added two blocks of her own.

Jessica Reeder turned in 12 assists, and Breanne Hatfield finished with seven service points and three aces.

Manteca hosts Enochs Tuesday.

East Union 2, Downey 0

The Lancers got off to a hot start, downing Downey, 25-21, 25-22, behind solid team play.

Gustine 2, Lathrop 0

Kara Sarraloos and Haleigh Wilcox were outstanding at the end line, but it wouldn’t be enough for the Spartans in a 23-25, 15-25 loss.

Freshman

East Union 2, Downey 0

The Pages looked good for their first time out, downing the Modesto squad, 25-18, 25-22.

Sierra 2, Tracy 0

Lyanna Hughes was all over the court in Sierra’s 25-12, 25-15 sweep, turning in four aces, a kill and a pair of blocks.

Katelyn Perkins, Elia Vasquez, Sarah Gullett and Stevie Leeman turned in a kill each.
