Menasco paces Buffs in victory over McNair

Jake Menasco went six solid innings to help lead the Manteca High Buffaloes past McNair Tuesday in a non-league affair, 4-1.
“Jake pitched well and gave us a chance to win,” said Manteca coach Neil MacDannald.
The Buffaloes (9-3) broke a 1-1 tie in the third by rallying for three runs. Gerson Gomez and Zach Chamberlain had the big hits in the frame.
“(They) both came up with big two-out RBI hits – that was key for us,” added MacDannald, who praised catcher Sam Rohovit for his work behind the plate.
Manteca managed seven hits, with Bret Kovacs going 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Chamberlain chipped in by going 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI.
Peyton Padilla and Seth Tennis led McNair with a double and two hits, respectively.

The Buffaloes swept past the visiting Spartans in Tuesday’s Valley Oak League meet.
Samantha Cerritos (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Alyssa Trejo (100 butterfly, 500 freestyle), and Brooke Freeman (100 breast stroke) helped lead Manteca to a 94-67 win.
In the boys division, the Buffalos captured 10 of 11 events in posting a 128-27 victory.
Top finishers included Jacob Evans (200 freestyle, 100 breast stroke), Austin Welch (200 individual medley, 100 butterfly), Eloy Ruiz (100 freestyle), Steele Roberts (500 freestyle), and Rafael Calzada (100 back stroke).
In addition, the 200 meter freestyle relay team of Welch, Roberts, Evans and Kameron Beamon posted a first-place Sac-Joaquin Section qualifying time of 1 minute, 39.47 seconds.
Trejo did likewise in the 500 freestyle for the frosh-soph sections.
