MHS routs Calaveras in Buff Cup opener

Tournament host Manteca took a first-round victory in the Buffalo Cup on Friday with a 5-1 win over Calaveras of San Andreas at Guss Schmiedt Field.

The Buffaloes outshot the Redskins 20-3 with Manteca goalie Eduardo Aguilar making two saves.

Ramon Rodriguez had two goals for Manteca, Kevin Rodriguez a goal and an assist, Raul Marquez and Josh Kong a goal apiece and Aron Navarette and Ramon Rojas each had an assist.

Manteca continues the tournament this morning at 8 against Chico.

Sierra 5, Hughson 0

Pedro Maciel and Eddie Aguilar each scored two goals and had two assists for the Timberwolves. Chino Ruiz added one goal for Sierra.

Central Valley 0

David Lopez got the team going to start the tournament by scoring on a free kick. Eddie Aguilar added the other Timberwolves goal off of an assist from Eriq Kurys.

“The team is coming together well,” Sierra coach Joe Pires said. “We have played eight games in eight days so we have some tired legs and bumps and bruises, but we are happy with the progress of the boys so far.”
