Singles players lift Lathrop to win over EU

Lathrop High’s girls tennis team did all of its damage in singles play Tuesday at Manteca Regional Tennis Center, as the Spartans downed visiting East Union 6-3 to improve to 2-1 in the Valley Oak League.
Three Spartans singles players dominated en route to 6-0, 6-0 shutouts: No. 1 Angela Alegado, No. 3 Kim Victoria and No. 4 Darlene Hoang.
Tala Alkhatib defeated Isabel Moreno 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 2 match. At the bottom of the singles ladder, Beatrice Vilches beat Bradee Jeffery 6-1, 6-4, while Bernice Vilches hung on for the 6-0, 7-5 sweep of Jennifer Garcia.
East Union won all three doubles contests, with the top tandem of Nicole Meza-Bueno and Sarah Cahoon fending off Leslie Barraza and Erica Garlit, 6-4, 6-4. No. 2 Hailey Huber-Gosney and Carmen Tantaros won 7-6, 6-2 over Marisa Briseno and Harmon Garcha. Gianna Telles and Nadia Cadina swept, 6-0, 6-0.

The VOL-leading Buffaloes (3-0, 5-1) continued their early-season roll Tuesday, dropping just two games in singles play.
Winners were Julia Tang (6-0, 6-0), Koryn Menasco (6-1, 6-0), Taylor Corona (6-0, 6-0), Makenna Condit (6-0, 6-0), Sahiba Kaur (6-0, 6-0), Stephanie Mercado (6-0, 6-1), Ravneet Dhillon/Navina Mann (6-1, 6-1), Julianne Eavenson/Kaileah Johannson (6-2, 6-1) and Noeli Mercado/Melissa Poncini (6-0, 6-1).

MODESTO — The Timberwolves (2-1) tallied their wins with singles sweeps from Kaitlyn Rausa (6-2, 6-2), Nadia Petrovic (6-1, 6-1), Ellie Kim (6-2, 6-1), Melanie Nguyen (6-0, 6-2), Sydney Huynh (6-4, 6-4) and Natlie Rootsaert (6-2, 6-2).
Sierra’s losses were competitive doubles matches. No. 2 Dianna Duenas and Joyce Sebastian were edged out 4-6, 6-2, 10-12 by Lilly Berha and Erika Rizo. Xochitl Torres and Mikayla Coburn dropped the No. 3 match, 3-6, 6-7.
