The last time Manteca and Weston Ranch met on the court, it came down to the last match.

This time, the last match didn’t matter.

Weston Ranch conquered the host Buffaloes 5-0 on Thursday after edging them 8-7 under the round-robin format during the first half of the Valley Oak League season.

“Based on how our last match went, we kind of expected a different outcome,” Manteca coach Mary Ann Tolbert said. “Weston Ranch’s girls have really improved and we just had an off day.

“We had a last-minute replacement for our No. 1 doubles, so we had people playing out of position. But the bottom line is that we got outplayed today.”

Nicole Bowen performed masterfully at No. 1 singles for Weston Ranch, defeating Jasmine Sandhu 6-0, 6-2. Vy Hoang dropped Lexy Ziakas 6-2, 6-0; and recent addition Yurie Koska coasted pat Hilary Coleman with a pair of 6-1 sets.

It was much more competitive in the doubles matches.

Weston Ranch’s top tandem of Vanessa Paez and Lyan Hoan got past Maria Saavedra and Allison Tolman, 6-3, 6-3.

The last match to wrap up was at No. 2 doubles, which went to a super tiebreaker after the two teams split the first two sets.

Manteca’s Emily Cervantes and Vanessa Vivit battled valiantly but fell to Vanessa Danalita and Christina Poklay, 7-5, 3-6, 9-11.

Emily Cervantes and Vanessa Vivit lost to Vanessa Danalita and Christina Poklay 7-5, 3-6, 9-11.

Manteca (3-7) heads to East Union next Tuesday.
