Ripon Christian’s girls and boys basketball teams won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI titles in back-to-back games last Friday morning at the University of the Pacific.
On Wednesday, they’ll both get to open the CIF Northern California Division VI Regional Championships at their home gym.
The third-seeded girls team (17-12) tips off the doubleheader at 6 p.m. against No. 6 Laytonville (24-4), the North Coast Section Division VI runner-up. And if the Ripon Christian boys (19-9) can keep up their current hot streak, they’ll be home for the duration of NorCals. They start with No. 8 San Francisco Waldorf (18-7) at 7:30.
Ticket prices will only go up $1 — to $10 general admission, $6 for children 5-under, students, seniors — for the NorCal doubleheader at Ripon Christian.
The NorCal semifinals take place Saturday, and the title round will be hosted by the highest-seeded team remaining on Tuesday, March 13. Unlike in Open Division and Divisions I-V, there will be no state championship in VI.
Fall River of McArthur is home of the defending NorCal Division VI champion boys and girls teams. The Bulldogs boys team (20-8) is seeded fourth and could visit Ripon Christian in the second round should it get past No. 5 Cornerstone Christian (27-4) of Antioch. Fall River’s girls team (24-5) is the No. 1 seed.
Lathrop High’s girls basketball team (23-6) will be on the road for its first NorCal apperance, and the Spartans have been elevated to Division III after losing the SJS Division IV final to West Campus 78-52 last Friday. Seeded No. 10 for NorCals, Lathrop travels to No. 7 Clovis (19-12) on Wednesday. Clovis is the Central Section Division I runner-up.
Ripon High’s girls soccer team (16-4-2) has been a rewarded a home match for the inaugural NorCal championships for the sport. The No. 3-seeded Indians dispatched Trans-Valley League champion Hilmar in overtime last Thursday in the SJS Division V final. On Tuesday, they’ll kick off the Division IV NorCal tourney with No. 6 Golden Sierra (18-8-1), which claimed the SJS Division VII title.
The semifinal and final rounds are scheduled for Thursday and Saturday and will take place at host schools.
