Megan Oblin is excited about the next chapter in her young life.

The Sierra High senior signed on the dotted line Friday – as in National Letter of Intent – to run cross country at Stanislaus State.

“This is a special day for Megan and her family,” said Sierra High Vice Principal Andrew Lee of the special signing event that took place in the school library.

One of the reasons she chose Stanislaus State over St. Mary’s College or Sac State was coach Darren Holman, who is passionate about distance running, having competed and coaching at various levels.

“They caught my eye that, as a (NCAA) Division II, the women’s team is ranked No. 19 nationally,” Oblin said.

She also runs track for the Timberwolves, competing in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

“Winning the 1,600 in the Valley Oak League Championships as a sophomore was one of the highlights (at Sierra),” she said.

Oblin began running during her days at Nile Garden Elementary School, where she often took first place in the mile run.

She’s the daughter of Sarah and Jacques Oblin.

“Megan loves running and she’s thrilled about going to Stanislaus State,” her mother Sarah said.

Megan Oblin is leaning towards becoming a teacher. For that, she credits her English teacher Christina Young and her Photography teacher Juan Gutierrez as her inspirations.

She has the program record in cross country (18:36.5) and twice qualified for the state meet. In her junior year, Oblin was 27th with a time of 19:32.2.

Oblin was joined by family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers and administrators during her letter-of-intent signing.
