Danielle Danielle Sperry was near-perfect in Ripon’s 8-0 shutout of visiting Delhi on Wednesday.

The third-year varsity junior allowed just two base runners and had her no-hitter thwarted by Brianna Lopez’s double with two outs in the seventh inning. She was otherwise untouchable, as she rung up 17 strikeouts and walked none. Delhi’s other base runner, Deserie Villagrana, reached on an error.

“She was just dealing,” Ripon coach Robert Vernon said. “She was throwing strikes, hitting her spots and mixing up pitches.”

Sperry combined with Alyssa Harris for a one-hitter in the team’s season opener on Monday, a 17-0 thrashing of Sonora. On Wednesday, UC San Diego-bound Darian van der Maaten clubbed three hits and scored twice. Mikaela Ferreira drove in two runs, plated two and hammered a triple. Jennica Baldwin finished 2 for 3.

Ripon next encounters Beyer of Modesto next Monday at Rainbow Fields.
