When Lincoln High made its way to Manteca, there was no way the soccer team could have expected to witness the show Sierra junior Joanna Ortiz was prepared to put on. Ortiz went off for four goals in a 6-0 shellacking of the visiting Trojans Thursday.

Ortiz and the Timberwolves got things going immediately, when Sydnne Koscielcki got loose for a goal just 20 seconds into the match. Ortiz took over from there, scoring in the 13th, 21st, 25th and 41st minute of the match, singlehandedly securing the victory.

Senior Stephanie Vanni assisted Ortiz’s third goal and Ortiz returned the favor assisting Vanni on her goal scored with the game well in hand. Koscielcki assisted another Ortiz goal and one score was an unassisted breakaway score.

Sierra (2-0) remained perfect on the young season, following up its 3-1 win over Turlock with a blowout performance. The Timberwolves will be back on the pitch Monday, when they play host to Tracy High.

Megan Howley celebrated her birthday in style, posting a hat trick on the Yellowjackets in the Lancers’ 6-1 win Thursday.

Teammate Isela Rivera dished a trio of assists and Stephanie Sabala also contributed, distributing a pair of assists. Rivera also made good on a goal, as did teammate Regina Dias who scored twice.

The Lancers (6-1-1) will be on the field again Monday, when they travel to Lodi to take on the Lodi Flames.
