No. 7 Manteca stayed with second-seeded Ponderosa for a few innings Friday before the host Bruins put up five runs in the third and another five in the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule with a 10-0 six-inning shutout in second-round action of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III softball playoffs.

The Buffaloes (17-9) eked out five hits with Baylee Willenbrink getting two of the five and Sienna Lowery, Jessica Almeida and Nayellys Torres added a hit apiece. Ponderosa (21-4-1) of Shingle Springs belted 12 hits, four for extra bases.

“We hung with them for a little bit, but that’s a good team,” Manteca coach Josh Farris said. “Every time I wonder how it can get better than CC or Oakdale you face a team like them or Vista – we haven’t played Vista but from what I hear they are a pretty good team.

“That was a really, really good team. I could see them winning it all for sure.”
