OAKDALE — Reigning Trans-Valley League champion Ripon Christian got a sneak preview of what’s to come Thursday in the 47th Oakdale Rotary Classic.

The Knights started strong against league rival Hughson in the semifinal tilt but could not contain guard Will Fiveash in a 71-61 overtime loss.

Jadon Vander Molen, who led Ripon Christian (8-3) with 15 points, hit a 3 with 1.5 seconds left in regulation to force the extra period. The Knights’ momentum was halted after they made the first bucket in overtime. Fiveash took over from there, scoring seven of his game-high 33 points. Hughson (10-1) outscored RC 14-4 in OT.

“It was a dogfight,” RC coach Mark Hofman said. “We just couldn’t guard Fiveash.”

Ripon Christian gained traction early on, taking a 20-8 lead into the second quarter. Andrew Vander Weide and Fletcher Jackson contributed 14 and 10 points for the Knights, respectively. Josh Duron added 13 for the Huskies.

Ripon Christian faces tournament host Oakdale for third place tonight starting at 6:30.

Gregori 65, Sierra 53

STOCKTON — The Timberwolves (7-3) had a five-game winning streak snapped in the winners-bracket semifinal of the 3rd annual Adidas Trojan Christmas Classic at Lincoln High.

It was tied at 15-15 at the end of one before Gregori (3-5), which led 34-26 at halftime, took control with its size.

Bikram Thiara paced Sierra with 15 points, while Jamille Grady had 13. The T’wolves take on Modesto at 6:30 tonight in the third-place game.

“I felt like our effort was inconsistent,” Sierra assistant coach Leo Griggs said. “We didn’t match their intensity and their size was able to come into play because we didn’t box out. We got outworked.”
