RC girls seize 5th straight SL title

RIPON — Ripon Christian’s girls soccer team is the Southern League champion once again.

On Thursday, the Knights clinched at least a share of their fifth straight title with two regular-season matches to go after thumping Orestimba, 4-0.

Cal State East Bay-bound Abby Buitrago scored two goals. Ripon Christian (11-0-1, 14-4-2 overall) led 3-0 by the 20th minute. Emily Manes and Bethany Silveira padded the first-half lead. Thea Vander Meulen and Rachel Oosterman each contributed an assist.

Sabrina Van Vliet and Emma Cormier shared time at goalie in the shutout.


Central Catholic 5, Lathrop 2

LATHROP — Kassandra Ceja accounted for both Lathrop goals with an assist coming from goalie Noelle Smith in the Valley Oak League match.

Central Catholic (9-2-1, 12-4-2 overall) finished with three goals and two assists.


Orestimba 7, Ripon Christian 2

RIPON — The Knights (1-11, 2-18) hung tough with the Southern League’s top team, before the Warriors (10-0-1, 13-1-1) broke it open.

Jake Groshong keyed Ripon Christian’s first goal, winning the ball and pushing up to Nick Van Vliet in the corner. Van Vliet then sent a cross for Rian Koetsier to tie it at 1-1. Orestimba led 3-1 at halftime and scored four more unanswered goals before Van Vliet capped the final score.

Van Vliet also had two saves after replacing starting keeper Josh Tatton (10 saves) at goal.
