Ripon Christian earned its first win of the Valley Foothill League season in style, edging out the visiting Riverbank Bruins by two-strokes in a 189-191 victory Thursday at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Ripon Christian’s round on the par-31 front nine was less than perfect, but more than enough for the win. Vanessa Vallo led the way for the Knights with a 46 and teammate Jenny Wickham followed her with a 47. Both Kaitlyn Groshong and Robyn Reyes shot 49’s and Lauren Hogan rounded out the scorecard with a 50.

Emily Blevins turned in medalist honors for Riverbank with a 42.

Kimball 243, Sierra 253

The Timberwolves hung tough against Kimball, but could not close the 10-stroke gap in a VOL loss to the Jaguars in Tracy.

Lexus Barnes led the way for Sierra (0-2) with a 42, while McKenna Doyle and Melanie Kiesel turned in 49 and 52, respectively. Vanessa Rodriguez (54) and Kaitlea Maestas (56) completed Sierra’s scorecard.

Kimball High’s Lydia Nolen turned in the match’s best round with a 39.

Sonora 290, Manteca 330

Manteca got a decent round from Kaylie Grimes, but could not get another low score in a lopsided loss in Sonora Thursday.

“We’re going to have to work hard on short game,” Manteca head coach Greg Conway said. “Unfortunately, our girls have not had a lot of course time leading into the season.

“So we’re working off some of the rust in these early matches.”

Kaylie Grimes’ 52 led the way, while Brooke Mejorado (60) and Caitlyn Leppere (63) helped the Buffaloes.
