Ripon Christian was able to slow down Mariposa’s top player.

Mariposa didn’t have answer for the Ripon Christian’s.

Reigning Southern League MVP Teagan Manus scored 22 points and swiped 10 steals, leading Ripon Christian’s 59-32 road win on Monday.

But the key for the Knights (2-0, 7-4 overall) was Ellen Blankers’ defense of Shea Williams, who was limited to just four points in the second half after pumping in 16 over the first two quarters.

Mariposa (1-1, 4-8) stayed within reach down 31-24 at halftime but was held to eight second-half points.

“We played much better defense,” said Ripon Christian coach Ed Mulder. “We put Ellen Blankers on Shea Williams, their best player, and that made a big difference.”

Amber Hilvers and Blankers each contributed eight points on offense. Kirstin Bowman added nine.

Ripon Christian visits Turlock Christian (8-5) on Thursday in a showdown between the SL’s defending co-champions.
