The Ripon Christian Knights were able to close out the first half of their first Southern League season undefeated, stopping Gustine in a 4-0 shutout Thursday to remain unblemished in conference play.

Ripon Christian (6-0-1 SL, 13-2-1 overall) took a 1-1 tie in the standings after its first meeting with Waterford High, but finished play after that tie with impressive soccer each time out. The Knights have put themselves in position to make a run through the second half of league play on into the postseason.

“We are excited to have finished the first round of league play undefeated,” Ripon Christian head coach Travis Haveman said. “This is a great accomplishment for these girls, especially given our past history.”

The Knights got goals from Rachel Kinser, Natalie Van Groningen and a pair from standout Mikaela Alger. Adri Van Groningen was creditited with an assits and goalie Beth Van Vliet posted one save on her way to the shutout.

The Knights will look to keep momentum rolling in the right direction when they kick off the second half of league with a road trip to Mariposa.

“Everyone is continuing to pull their individual weight wherever they are needed,” Haveman said. “As a result, the team play is running smoothly. Our attack has made leaps and bounds since the beginning of last season.

“Through that, the girls have earned a notable record.”

The two clubs will begin action on the pitch at 3:45 p.m.
