Ripon caps MC Classic with one-sided victory

Despite getting off to a sluggish start, Ripon High erupted Thursday morning to handily down Ribet Academy of Los Angeles 62-44 in the 13th place game of the Modesto Christian Holiday Hoops Classic.

Ribet got the best of the Indians in the first quarter, and Ripon’s proficient offense took longer than expected to get rolling.

But once they did it was all over.

Anchored by Jake McCreath’s 26-point and 16-rebound performance, Ripon managed to piece together a 36-11 run between the second and third quarters to easily put itself in the driver’s seat.

Jared Ratto also contributed with 12 points and six rebounds.

“I think that we did a good job today shutting down their big man with Jake defensively and letting him do what he does on offense,” Ripon head coach Rod Wright said. “We hit 58 percent of our shots and that was cool to see, and we shot a lot better from the free-throw line.”

Ripon (5-7) will tip off the Trans Valley League season on Tuesday when they host Hilmar at 7:30 p.m.

Ripon Christian 56, Johansen 52
Logan Vos’ 24 points proved to be enough to lift Ripon Christian past Johansen Thursday afternoon in the consolation championship of the Oakdale Holiday Tournament.

The Knights outscored Johansen 19-14 in the fourth quarter to give them a narrow margin for victory. Isaac Norman contributed 12 points, while Jared Goslinga rounded out the top scorers with eight points.

Ripon Christian will open the Southern League season Tuesday when they host Mariposa at 7:30 p.m.
