Ripon Christian fends off upset-minded Hilmar

HILMAR — Hilmar converted five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep them in reach, but its upset bid fell short as Ripon Christian escaped with a 63-60 Trans-Valley League win on Tuesday.
The Yellowjackets (1-9 TVL, 8-17 overall) missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
It was otherwise a battle between two of the league’s top post players, with Hilmar’s Jonas Tate leading all scorers with 20 points. Andrew Vander Weide paced Ripon Christian (7-3, 15-8) with 18 points. Braden Van Groningen added 13 points for the Knights, Cade Alger finished with 12 and Fletcher Jackson 10.
Carter Azevedo scored 18 points for Hilmar, while Gage Yates pumped in 12. The Yellowjackets led 29-23 at halftime before RC surged ahead with a 19-9 third quarter.

MOUNTAIN HOUSE —The Indians (9-0, 18-6) stretched their winning streak to 13 but needed a 21-5 third-quarter burst to break away. They were ahead 31-27 at halftime.
Kyle Sisk anchored Ripon with 21 points, Vincent Olmo chimed in with 14 and reserve Benson Pali contributed with eight. Jesse Jordan led Mountain House (3-6, 8-14) with 12 points, hitting three 3s in the fourth quarter.
