Ripon Christian’s coed tennis team started the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs on Thursday and took care of Bret Harte 6-3 at the Ripon Community Center courts.
The second-seeded Knights swept five of their individual wins and was spotted one via default at No. 1 boys doubles.
Top boys singles player Drew Meester warded off Jonathan Carter 6-3, 7-5, while No. 2 girl Karo Harris took care of Melanie Bazaar, 6-2, 6-0.
Emmitt Van Laar and Braden Schaapman won at No. 2 boys doubles 6-2, 6-0 over JT Glessman and Milo Jirka. Ripon Christian’s top female tandem of Sophia Cheney and Brittany Dugo knocked off Yareli Munoz and Amaris Munoz, 6-2, 6-3.
The Knights prevailed at mixed doubles, as Christian Runnells and Annika Jung swept Tobias Siegler and Cheyenne Murphy, 6-3, 6-0.
Seventh-seeded Bret Harte (9-5), the third-place team out of the Mother Lode League, needed third sets to earn two of its wins.
At No. 1 girls singles, Lexie McDaniel outlasted Tatum Sonke, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Bret Harte’s second girls doubles duo of Emma Frazier and Sophia Arana fended off Natalie Thompson and Makenna Kootstra, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4.
Brayden Bowersox contributed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Alton Mensonides for the Bullfrogs.
The Trans Valley League champion Knights (13-0) will host No. 6 Summerville (11-4) in the semifinals next Tuesday. Summerville upset No. 3 Argonaut in its playoff opener, 6-3. Top-seeded Colfax and No. 5 Turlock Christian are in the other semifinal. The title match is set for next Thursday, May 15 at Oak Park Tennis Center in Stockton.
