SALIDA — Ripon High scored four goals in the span of 10 minutes to roll past Modesto Christian Monday, 6-1.

Armando Garcia led way, scoring twice in the first half and assisting another goal later in the Trans Valley League match-up.

Alfredo Limon also scored twice for the Indians (1-1 TVL, 4-8) and Hector Gonzalez and Jordan Duran both chipped with a one goal.

Despite the one-sided affair, the Crusaders (0-2 TVL, 1-3-2) put a scare into Ripon, scoring a goal midway in the second half to make it a game, 2-1.

“That woke us up,” said Indians coach Gabe Keenan, whose team had an 11-3 shots-on-goal advantage in the first half.

“Sometimes it takes just one goal (from the opponent) to make a difference,” he added.

Garcia booted the first goal from 15 yards out at the 15th minute of the game, adding the second one — also unassisted — two minutes later.

Ahead 2-0 at the intermission, Ripon continued to go on the attack while coming up empty.

For that, Keenan gave kudos to Modesto Christian goalkeeper Drew Blakeley, who had 15 saves including Duran’s penalty-kick try.

Despite dominating most of the game, the Indians saw their slight lead cut in half with the Crusaders goal.

They responded with Garcia setting up Limon for a score.

Moments later, Gonzalez netted a goal, making it 4-1.

Duran then connected on a corner kick while Limon’s second goal of the game came on a defection off a goalie save.

Not lost on the sudden scoring barrage was the effort of midfielder Hunter Taberna.

“He was the center on our attacks,” said Keenan, who also praised Taberna’s play on defense.

Ripon will travel to Hilmar on Wednesday. The TVL match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
