Ripon High’s boys golf team reached the highest and lowest points of its season in a span of two days.
Just one day after winning the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Stevinson Ranch, the Indians were stunned by host Hughson 191-195 in Trans-Valley League play Tuesday.
Hughson has played its best at River Oak Golf Course, where the Huskies also upset league contender Hilmar last week. They are now 4-0 to top the conference.
“They beat Hilmar in windstorm last week, and today they beat us in a rainstorm,” Ripon coach Chris Musseman said. “They’re going to have to play away (from home) at some point, but credit to them — they’re playing well. Their scores were good, while we struggled.”
Hughson’s Jesus Ramos was medalist with a five-over 36 on the back nine.
Zach Capel, Robbie Figeroid and Kyle Head each checked in with a 38 to lead Ripon (2-2, 3-4 overall). Jason Williamson added a 40 and Nick Sharp a 41.
Ripon hosts rival Ripon Christian and Calaveras for a three-way nonleague match at Spring Creek Country Club today before returning to league action Thursday against visiting Modesto Christian.
