Ripon High’s girls soccer team is one of three teams to be awarded a first-round bye for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs.
The Section released brackets on Friday. The postseason begins Monday for girls teams, and Tuesday for the boys.
The Trans-Valley League champion Indians (19-4-2) received the highest seed among the seven area squads to qualify. At No. 3, Ripon will await the winner of No. 6 Twelve Bridges (13-5-2) and No. 11 El Dorado (8-9-1) in the quarterfinal round Wednesday at Stouffer Field. Placer (8-4-5) and West Park (8-4-4) are the top two seeds in the bracket.
Manteca (17-4-5) of the Valley Oak League is the 7 seed in Division II and will get to host Tri-City Athletic League’s Lodi (8-5-4) in a battle of fourth-place teams. St. Francis (15-0-4) tops the Division II bracket and is the SJS’ No. 2 overall ranked team, according to MaxPreps computer ratings.
Sierra (11-6-4) placed third in the VOL but has to start on the road in Division III, as Central California Conference runner-up Golden Valley (9-3-2) welcomes the Timberwolves in the 7-10 matchup. VOL champ Oakdale (15-1-2) is seeded No. 4 in this bracket, while Christian Brothers (13-4-3) checks in at No. 1.
In Division VI, fourth-seeded Southern Athletic League outright champion Ripon Christian (18-2-3) takes on Woodland Christian (8-5-2). The winner likely gets top-seeded Stone Ridge Christian (18-1-2), co-champion of the Central California Athletic Alliance.
On the boys side, Valley Oak League tri-champions East Union (20-6-1) and Sierra (11-6-0) received the Nos. 6 and 10 seeds respectively. East Union plays No. 11 Pioneer (9-5-2), while Sierra drew a road match with No. 7 Patterson (8-5-2). Lincoln (17-0-1) of Placer County is the No.1 seed.
Meanwhile, Lathrop (12-8-4) gets to host its first-ever postseason appearance. The Spartans were assigned the No. 5 seed in Division IV and opens with No. 12 Orestimba (16-7-2), the Southern Athletic League runner-up. TVL boys champion Livingston (16-2-5) and Weston Ranch (15-5-2) are 1 and 2.
Championship games in Divisions V and VI will take place next Saturday, Feb. 18 at sites yet to be determined. The Divisions I-IV finals will be on Feb. 21-24.
