Ripon golfers second in VFL

Ripon High’s girls golf team placed second among North Division teams in the Valley Foothill League Mid-Year Tournament, which was held Monday at Micke Grove Golf Course in Lodi.

Ripon Christian placed fifth in the South Division.

Escalon was the overall winner with a 405, as Molly Landon (92) and Piper Rockwell (95) carded the two lowest scores. Ripon’s Laura Williams placed fourth with a 102.

The Indians finished with a 441. Alex Gonzales (106), Erin Wever (115) and Breeana Huckell (118) made up the rest of the team’s score.

Lauren Henderson (139), Rachel Struiksma (141), Alex Eastham (142) and Michaela Aiome (143) contributed to Ripon Christian’s 565.

 

Valley Oak League

Kimball 256, 

Weston Ranch 354

At Van Buskirk Golf Course, Jessica Fotheringham turned in a 63 to lead the host Cougars. Kimball’s Patricia Avila and Alyssa Lewis were low medalists with 47s.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Ripon 3, Modesto 0

At Modesto, Samantha McCreath paced a balanced Ripon attack with 11 kills. Shannon Wesley added nine to go with four blocks and five aces, while Breana Barrios chipped in seven kills.

Lauren Weibe handed out 16 assists, and Emily O’Brien contributed 15 digs.

Game scores were: 25-12, 25-17, 25-21.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Frogtown Invitational

Mahir Pepic didn’t cross the finish line first but ended up winning the large-school race in 16 minutes, 43 seconds at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds on Saturday. Sheldon’s Joel Giordano checked in at 16:36 but was disqualified for cutting the course, according to Manteca coach Rick Cuevas.

Pepic led the varsity boys to a sixth-place finish with 138 points. Ariana Avina (22:02) placed 14th for Manteca’s varsity girls.

Ivy Benson, Evelyn Gonzalez and Chelsea Gomez finished eighth, 10th and 11th, respectively to spearhead the Buffaloes’ JV girls team to the championship. Natalia Duran was the runner-up in sophomore girls.

In the small-school division, Ripon’s Alex Norling (17:00) took third in varsity boys while East Union placed sixth as a team. Johnathan Andrade (fourth) led East Union’s JV boys to a second-place finish, and Jaxson Bramell (fifth) helped the Lancers JV boys finish third. Kelley Higginson was fifth in freshman girls.
