Ripon finished tied for sixth place with Buhach Colony on Saturday in the 22-team field of the Morning Star Invitational at Los Banos High School.

Tristan Smith (285 pounds) brought home the gold medal for the Indians with Javier Hernandez (145) and Gabe Barnett (160) finishing third and Matt Fisher (106) placing fourth.

“I’m very happy with our progress at this point in the season,” Ripon coach Glen White said. “We still have a lot to work on, but I like the direction we’re heading.

“If we can work hard and keep everyone healthy, we could be a tough team to beat.
