Ripon High’s boys golf team shot what head coach Chris Musseman said was its “worst round” of the early season in a nonleague three-way meet Thursday at Spring Creek Golf & Country Club.

The Indians suffered their first two losses in one fell swoop, as Bret Harte carded 239 to Ripon Christian’s 243 and Ripon’s 247. Christian Manes of RC was the low medalist with a 5-over 41.

Kyle Colyn added a solid 43 for the Knights, while Jesse De Rousse (52), Andrew Manes (53) and Brandon Dotinga (54) rounded out the team score.

Ripon (1-2) was paced by Nathan Suender’s 45. Nick Sharpe followed with a 48, Robbie Figeroid and Kyle Head each recorded a 51, and Jack Brierly turned in a 52.

The Indians will have one more round to fine tune their game before beginning Trans-Valley League play against Escalon next Tuesday. On Monday, they will compete in the Lincoln Tournament held at Brookside Country Club.

Sierra 224, West 245

The Timberwolves put together a strong first showing in at their home course Thursday.

Medalist Essley Green led five Sierra players who finished with scores lower than 50, posting a 5-over 42. Blake Settlemoir trailed by a stroke, Chris Schmitz contributed a 45, Matt Rose had a 46 and Wade Montoya a 48.

“We did well, but there are still improvements left for us to make,” Sierra coach Jeff Williams said.

Sierra opens Valley Oak League action against Oakdale next Tuesday.

Manteca 263, Stagg 272

At Manteca Park Golf Course, Justin Morrish scored a 42 and was two strokes better than Stagg’s Eddie Balanon for medalist honors. Branden Ramirez and Davey Tolbert each carded a 49 for the Buffaloes (1-1).

“We’re still shaking off the rust and trying to get some new players some experience for the start of league play next week,” Manteca coach Dave Fontanilla said.

Manteca heads to Tracy Country Club next Tuesday to face Kimball.
