Ripon senior Chad Flory ended up a stroke shy of forcing a playoff for a NorCal bid Monday in Stockton where the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships were held at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

It was a low-scoring tournament headed by Turlock’s Christian Maggard, who finished 5-under 67. Lodi is the team champion with a five-man

score of 362. The top three teams and four individuals not part of the qualifying teams advance to the California Interscholastic Federation Northern Regional Championship on Monday, May 22 at Berkeley Country Club in El Cerrito.

Rocklin and Granite Bay each scored a 374 and will join Lodi at the NorCal tourney. Ethan Allred Woodcreek), Eli Weidman (Bret Harte) and Andre Zhang (Davis Sr.) finished with 69s to make it as individuals.

SJS Division VI champion Ripon Christian placed 11th out of 13 teams with a 425. Remarkably, 10 teams turned in sub-400 tallies.

Flory had a strong bounce-back effort with his 70. He had a rare off day last week in the SJS Division V Tournament after dominating the Trans Valley League for Most Outstanding Player honors.

Two other Ripon players played in Masters as individual qualifies. Jeremie Little also put together a solid round with an even 72, and Vince Uecker had an 86.

Southern Athletic League MVP Wyatt Hayes led Ripon Christian with a 76. Ethan Schenk (83), Cade Van Groningen (86), Trey Van Groningen (86) and Carter Van Groningen (94) also scored for the Knights. Ben Miller had the throw-out score of 101.
