RIPON – The Ripon High seniors will have something to remember when thinking about their last Friday home game of the season.

After getting ahead by as much as 20 points Friday night, the Indians – starting five seniors and spending the rest of the night rotating players on a regular basis – cruised to a 51-38 victory over the visiting Hughson Huskies.

The win moves Ripon (4-2 in Trans Valley League, 12-11 overall) one step closer to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs.

“It was our last Friday home game, and we thought it would be good to have our senior night – to get it out of the way and let the guys play when we have a big crowd like that,” Ripon head coach Rod Wright said. “We shot well tonight, and the guys did a good job with the rotations that we were making.”

Ripon jumped out early on Hughson (0-6, 2-18) by burying nine shots from beyond the three point arc – with three coming from Caleb Christian, and two apiece from Matt Ratto and Kody Wengel – and held Husky scoring star Chris Pimentel to only 16 points.

Ratto led Ripon’s offensive attack with 18 points, while Wengel racked up 14 points and Christian dropped nine points from his deep shots.

Wengel also pulled down six rebounds.

“Kody had a good game for us tonight,” Wright said. “It was a typical senior night game, and we wanted to get those guys in to play as much as possible and we were able to do that tonight – we had the chance to play everybody.”
