Ripon High’s girls basketball team is one win away from the West Coast Jamboree’s Sapphire Division consolation championship round, and it will have to get past a familiar foe to get there.

The Indians rebounded nicely from Monday’s opening-round loss, crushing Corcoran of the Central Section, 46-27. Ripon (8-2) reunites with Weston Ranch today at Heritage High in Brentwood. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

“One way or the other, we end up playing them every year,” Ripon coach George Contente said. “I think it will be a good game.”

Coach Contente’s daughter, Kendra, anchored Ripon’s staggering 17-4 second-quarter run. She rattled in three of her four 3-pointers in the period and ended up with a game-high 18 points.

Center Rachel Rodriguez gave Ripon inside-outside balance, finishing with 13 points. Trina Torres and Taylor Carter had 13 and 11 points, respectively for Corcoran (2-7).

After falling in an overtime heartbreaker to tournament co-host Heritage Monday, the Cougars (5-4) managed to pull through in yet another hotly-contested battle.

Weston Ranch relied on balanced scoring to overcome the Mustangs (5-7) of Fairfield. Marceen Bryant pumped in eight points; center Jazmine Strane contributed seven points and 10 rebounds; and Timnesha Wilson added six points and six assists. April Seth and Emoni Wilson also had six points apiece.
