Ripons Sausedo erupts for 35 points

RIPON — Reina Sausedo continued her torrid streak in the Trans-Valley League on Tuesday, but it was defense that was the difference for Ripon’s first-place girls basketball team in its 76-62 triumph over Riverbank.
After trialing 37-35 at halftime, the Indians (4-0, 13-3 overall) broke away with a 28-9 third-quarter burst. Sausedo accumulated 12 of her 35 points in the third and also finished with 10 rebounds and five assists. She averaged 28 points in Ripon’s last four contests.
“We played good defense in the second half and cut our own turnovers and hit some key shots down the stretch,” Ripon coach Rick Inderbitzin said.
Tianna Sidtikun fired 17 points, including three 3s. Mia Van Lewen anchored Ripon in the post, contributing 10 points and eight rebounds. Savannah Clark pulled down 10 boards.
Riverbank (2-2, 7-10) started out hot, making four 3-pointers en route to staking a 22-14 first-quarter lead. Savannah Macias paced the Bruins with 21 points and Hailey Rodgers added 19. They each netted four of their team’s 10 3-pointers. Aliza Teixeira chipped in 10 points.
Ripon faces rival Ripon Christian on Thursday.

Ripon 61, Riverbank 45
RIVERBANK — Winners of eight straight, Ripon (4-0, 13-6) seized control from the start and carried a comfortable 20-2 lead into the second period.
Sophomore Troy Brogan helped get the Indians rolling, scoring eight of his 13 points in the first quarter. Adam Wood poured in three 3s and scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half. Vincent Olmo took over in the second half, finishing with 15 points. Ripon led by as much as 20 in the third.
Jesus Sanchez and Robert Cunha registered 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Riverbank (3-1, 7-12).
