Ripon High’s Andrew Bonner edged out Logan Vos of Ripon Christian for the second time in as many days Tuesday in a crosstown rivalry golf match featuring two of the area’s best golfers.

Bonner finished at even par with his 36 to anchor Ripon’s 214-221 non-league victory at Spring Creek Country Club. Vos finished with a rock-solid 38 for the runner-up score.

In the Yellowjacket Invitational at Stevinson Ranch Golf Club Monday, Bonner earned medalist honors with a 75, while Vos trailed by three strokes for second place.

“Logan is definitely one of the best golfers in the area,” Ripon coach Chris Musseman said. “For (Bonner) to consistently shoot what he does against him is unbelievable.”

The difference for Ripon, now 5-0 in dual matches, was Jordan Williamson. While the rest of the Indians struggled, Williamson turned in an impressive 39.

Josh Richter ended with a 45, Zack Capel a 46 and Jack Brierly a 48.

“As a group this was not our strongest outing, but overall the score was still decent,” Musseman said. “I credit Jordan for that, he has really stepped up. To think that two years ago he shot a 17 on Hole 1 (at Spring Creek) — he’s really come a long way.”

Scoring for Ripon Christian were Tim Hoeksema and Christian Manes with a 42 apiece, Brandon Dotinga a 48 and Danny Vos a 51.

Ripon Christian takes on another former Trans Valley League rival today at Escalon, while Ripon hosts Hughson at Jack Tone Golf Course. The Indians cap their busy week Thursday at Modesto Municipal Golf Course against Modesto Christian.

“This (match) was huge for us,” Musseman said. “Kevin (Schenk, RC’s coach) over there always has a good squad and it’s always competitive between us.

“It’s sad to lose them in league, but getting this match in kind of helped both teams, I think.”
