WEST SACRAMENTO — The Manteca girls tennis team’s season came to an end Tuesday in the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs.

The Buffaloes fell 9-0 to Tri-County Conference champion River City, which earned a rematch with Central Catholic from last year’s Division III finale. Defending champion Central Catholic beat Los Banos 6-3 in the other semifinal.

Despite the shutout, Manteca coach MaryAnn Tolbert was proud of the effort given by her young team. Four-year varsity starters Elizabeth Tolbert and Katie Inderbitzin played their final matches Tuesday. Tolbert dropped the No. 1 singles match to Jessie Olsen 5-7, 1-6, while Inderbitzin lost to Teresa Huynh at No. 3.

Gladis Sandoval hung tough at No. 5 singles before falling to Emily Xu, 2-6, 6-7 (1). Koryn Menasco (0-6, 1-6), Taylor Corona (3-6, 2-6) and Julia Tang (2-6, 3-6) also competed at singles for the Valley Oak League runner-up.

Jessica Tang and Rav Dhillon lost the No. 1 doubles contest 2-6, 3-6 to Karen Lee and Mallory Snarr. The freshman duo of Makenna Condit and Navina Mann lost 1-6, 3-6, as did Julianne Eavenson and Ivy Benson, 1-6, 1-6.

“Considering we started with two four-year seniors and only four starters returning from last year’s 12 we did amazing,” coach Tolbert said. “We definitely have a bright future next season when we return eight. Proud of how we represented Manteca and the VOL.”
