ROUNDUP: Buffs baseball fends off Merced

Manteca’s baseball team overcame four errors to complete a two-game sweep of visiting Merced with an 8-6 victory on Friday.
The Buffaloes (6-3) broke it open with a six-run rally in the third. They were held to four total hits but took advantage of seven walks. Freshman Zach Todd drove in a pair of runs and plate another for Manteca. Alex Gouveia and Dominic Rea each scored twice.
Winning pitcher Rafael Diaz scattered eight hits and walked three over five innings. He tallied six strikeouts, and only two of the five runs he surrendered were earned. Dylan Guise faced four batters and struck out two of them in the seventh inning for the save.
Merced (2-7) got two hits and two RBIs apiece from Joshua Alarcon and Grant Deal.

SOFTBALL
Weston Ranch 13, McNair 0

STOCKTON — The Cougars mauled visiting McNair (1-3) for the second time in three days and goes into their Valley Oak League opener at Oakdale next Thursday with a 4-4 record.
Stephanie Barba registered 10 strikeouts in a two-hit, mercy-shortened shutout. She was also 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and seven RBIs at the plate. Sheree White went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.

BOYS GOLF
Escalon 226, Ripon 235

OAKDALE — Ripon took another tough loss against Escalon this week, this time at Oakdale Country Club.
Nathan Sarkozy and Dan Bava were co-medalists for Escalon at 4-over 40. Ripon’s Nico Ilardi finished a stroke why with a 41. Jacob Baird and Gage Anderson each chipped in a 47. Kenny Johnson and Cade McCusker both contributed a 50.

JV softball
East Union 8, Bear Creek 4

Marissa Carranza clubbed her fifth home run of the season Friday at Northgate Softball Complex. She finished 3 for 4 and also went the distance from the pitcher’s circle, where she fired nine strikeouts.
Savannah Wilkerson also went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Kaitlyn Reyes hammered a double and a triple. Danielle James chimed in with a pair of hits to go with three RBIs.
