ROUNDUP: Dozier ties Manteca LJ record Snaer snags four medals at Edison track meet

STOCKTON — Manteca senior Sonny Dozier and East Union freshman Taylor Snaer were among the top performers Saturday in the Viking Invitational at Edison High.
Dozier tied his school’s program record in the long jump on just his second attempt of the season, measuring out at 22 feet, 6 inches for a first-place finish. He also helped the Buffaloes 4x400 relay — also consisting of Jesse Lopez, Sergio Espinoza and Antonio Gonzales — place second.
Snaer won the 400-meter dash and clocked a 1:01.84. She was also the 200 runner-up and part of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays with Mikayla Surnip, Josephine Flores and Lauren Pablo.
Manteca fared well in the team standings, placing second behind Lincoln in varsity girls and fourth in varsity boys.
Emilee Craighead (800, 2:44.65), Julia Moreno (300 hurdles, 51.52) and Jose Rios (shot put, 43-5) were other gold medal winners for the Buffaloes. Moreno also earned silver in the long jump along with the 4x100 that included Olga Perez, Shannon Le and DeeDee Doyle.
Domenic Favalaro (110 hurdles) and Kai Begonia (triple jump) also took second, and Raveen Nijjar (800) placed third.
Weston Ranch distance standout Brian Arevalo paced his way to a pair of silver medals in the 800 and 1,600. East Union’s Johnny Sandoval was third in the mile and second in the 3,200.
Lancers pole vaulter Brandon Emens finished second, and the 4x400 (Christian Avina, Matthew Slight, Erik Morales, Daniel Morales) took third.

BASEBALL
Manteca 12, Patterson 4

PATTERSON — Ryan Ward crushed a double and a triple, driving in four runs while plating three of his own as the Buffaloes (2-1) rolled to their second straight win.
Manteca totaled 12 hits in the onslaught, getting two each from Zach Todd (2 for 4, double two runs, two RBIs), Austin Kovacs (run, RBI) and Ward (2 for 4). Sonny Elder contributed three RBIs, and Chrsitian Tonna scored three times while walking twice and getting beaned twice.
Sophomore Dylan DePrater was the winning pitcher, allowing just one hit in 2 2/3 relief innings.

Lathrop 13, San Lorenzo 0 (5)
SAN LORENZO — Daniel Navarro twirled the mercy-shortened no-hitter, striking out seven in the process.
His batterymate Mike Pacheco helped spark the offense with two walks, two steals and three runs.

Weston Ranch 12, Sonora 7
SONORA — The Cougars (1-2) notched their first win behind sophomore Dustin Tinsley’s four-inning start highlighted by eight strikeouts.
Christian Cortez went 3 for 4 to lead the attack, David Baca was 2 for 4 with a RBI and a double, and Rogelio Ruvalcaba plated three runs.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Lathrop 3 Atwater 0

ATWATER — Arman John and Christian Green hammered nine and seven kills, respectively, leading the Spartans’ Foundation Game sweep, 25-15, 25-9, 25-17.
Diego Sanchez-Castaneda anchored the attack with 21 assists and four aces. Ysrael Gutierrez contributed three kills and five aces.

SOFTBALL
West 21, Lathrop 8 (5)

The Spartans (0-2) amassed eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, but West (2-0) answered with 12 in the top of the second en route to the win.
Hailey Hunter and Ishmeet Uppal each drove in a pair of runs on one hitfor Lathrop. Isabel Terra also had a hit.
