Ryan Guibor and Jackson Fay combined for a mercy-shortened no-hitter Wednesday, as East Union routed Weston Ranch 16-0 on the road.
The Lancers’ pitchers struck out eight and walked six.
Offensively, East Union (4-1) totaled 13 hits but was also aided by six walks, two hit batters and six errors.
Freshman Joe Alvarez went 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Kirk Simoni (two runs, three RBIs), Carson Sanders (three runs, two RBIs) and Fay (three runs, RBI) all finished 2 for 3. J.P. Abrew and Guibor each hit triples.
East Union will look to build on the series sweep of the Cougars (3-3) today when it welcomes Patterson.
Sierra 7, Escalon 2
Ryan McIntyre pitched four strong innings for the host Timberwolves (2-1), striking out seven while surrendering five hits and a walk. He got the win thanks to a seven-run explosion from innings 2 to 4. Isaiah Yanez (1 1/3 innings, two Ks) and Druw Navarro (2/3 inning, two strikeouts) pitched in relief.
Zach Walmer hit 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI. Collins Schluer also scored twice, while Wyatt Bauer and McIntyre drove in two apiece.
SOFTBALL
Manteca 6, Patterson 5
The Buffaloes (3-2) scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to prevail in the back-and-forth affair.
Manteca led 2-0 after four innings, but Patterson (1-3) rallied for four runs in the fifth. The Buffs went back ahead with two runs in the sixth, but the Tigers answered with the equalizer in the bottom half.
Jocelyn Baptist went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs for Manteca. Sophomores Lauren Moncada and Riley Ward (two RBIs) both hit 2 for 3. Sienna Lowery contributed two RBIs.
Nayellys Torres plated a pair of runs and knocked in another. She was also the winning pitcher after throwing the final three innings in relief.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Manteca 3, Enochs 1
The Buffaloes (5-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season, holding off visiting Enochs (5-2), 25-21, 25-11, 25-27, 25-15).
Setter Mark Bondoc led the way with 32 assists and 14 digs. Outside hitter Jesus Gomez added 14 points, three aces and six digs. Cedrick Maglinao fired 21 service points and six aces. Julio Mateo pitched in seven kills.
BOYS TENNIS
Beyer 6, Lathrop 3
The Spartans opened Western Athletic Conference play at Manteca Regional Tennis Center.
Gabriel Godinez (6-4, 6-0) and Adam Godinez (7-5, 6-0) won at Nos. 3-4 singles. Lathrop also won at No. 3 doubles, as Angel Colchado and Steven Nguyen downed Ethan Bledsoe and Tanner Darley, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
JV volleyball
Manteca 2, Enochs 0
Manteca prevailed 25-16, 25-20 behind Hayden Silva’s three aces and eight assists.
Dennen Loureiro netted four kills, and Alex Khiberan had six digs.
