ROUNDUP: East Union boys XC passes test at Oakdale

East Union's boys cross country team had its stiffest test of the season in a Valley Oak League meet of unbeatens Wednesday at Oakdale. 

Paced by Cooper Freeman, the reigning VOL and Sac-Joaquin Section Division III champion Lancers prevailed, 27-29 

Freeman crossed the finish in 15 minutes, 23 seconds ahead of Oakdale's Caleb Cavanaugh (15:28). Johnny Sandoval (15:56) of East Union edged out Dominic Robles (15:58) in the duel for third.

Alex Cuevas contributed a sixth-place finish (16:38) for the Lancers, whose next three runners helped secure the win as Evan Cooper (17:13), Mauro Ortiz (17:16) and Abel Zuniga (17:22) followed at 8-9-10.

Now 5-0, East Union closes its season next Wednesday, March 24 at Escalon.


BOYS GOLF

Grace Davis 316, Lathrop DQ

Undermannded Lathrop took the loss Tuesday in their Western Athletic Conference opener at Manteca Park Golf Course. 

Salvador Reyes was low medalist with an 8-over 44, and Lathrop teammate John Wall Jr. was the runner-up with a 59. Grace Davis was led by Molly Fonda's 60. 


GIRLS TENNIS

Patterson 7, Lathrop 2

At Patterson, the visiting Spartans were able to salvage wins at No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Hailey Hunter swept Carolina Herrera 6-1, 6-3, while Ruby Chavez and Madilynn Romero fended off Hannah Carter and Katelyn Tongson, 6-4, 6-4.
