ROUNDUP: Freshmen lead unbeaten Manteca softball team to win over Liberty Ranch

Manteca’s softball team erupted for six runs in the first inning and cruised to an 8-3 non-league victory over visiting Liberty Ranch on Thursday.

The Buffaloes’ freshman class played a big part. Marissa San Nicolas went 2 for 4 with a steal, a run and an RBI, while Isabel Tonna knocked in a pair of runs and pitched two scoreless innings. Jocelyn Baptist and Lauren Moncada each contributed an RBI. Senior Rayana Ladd added a triple.

Junior pitcher Nayellys Torres got the win, throwing two innings in relief with four strikeouts. Riley Ward pitched three innings, fanned three and gave up all three of Liberty Ranch’s runs in the third inning.

Ysabella Granata hit a two-run homer for the Hawks (0-2) from Galt.

Manteca (4-0) will look to keep rolling today at Lodi.

 

BOYS GOLF

Ripon Christian 179, Big Valley Christian 216

Cade Van Groningen finished 1-under 30 in the non-league match at Jack Tone Golf Course.

Wyatt Hayes overcame a double-bogey on hole 1 and turned in a solid 33. Ethan Schenk and Trey Van Groningen followed with a 34 and 35, respectively. Ben Miller added a 47. 

 

BOYS TENNIS

Lathrop 7, Johansen 2

No. 2 singles player Gabriel Godinez (6-1, 6-1), No. 3 Eli Poklay (6-4, 6-2), No. 4 Sage Coates (7-6 [5], 6-2), No. 6 Adam Godinez (6-0, 6-2) and No. 1 doubles partners Gurmatt Singh and Niko Ruiz (6-4, 6-0).

At No. 5 singles, Daya Singh came back to defeat Xzavier Jauregui, 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. Brandon Bautista and Noah Talania held on for a 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 win in the third doubles match.

 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Lathrop 3, Johansen 0

The Spartans (7-2 overall) improved to 5-0 in the Western Athletic Conference with the 25-13, 25-18, 25-17 sweep.

Defensive specialist Lucas Baluyut highlighted the victory with 24 digs and six aces, both team-highs. Jerico Santillan racked up 21 assists, five aces and two solo walks.

Gabriel Fa’ali’i paced the attack with 12 kills, and Christian Buerster added four.

 

JV volleyball

Lathrop 2, Johansen 0

The Spartans rolled to a 25-12, 25-17 WAC win.

Jorge Reyes fired seven service aces to go with five assists and five digs. John Calimlim added five digs and three aces. Cameron Loyola chipped in with four aces.
