East Union’s girls volleyball team came close to snapping its streak of Valley Oak League losses but fell short at Oakdale, 25-19, 19-25, 19-25, 26-24, 9-15.
The Lancers (0-3, 11-10 overall) have lost 14 best-of-five matches in a row in VOL play, while Oakdale (1-2, 7-7) bounced back from two tough losses to start league.
Mariela Navarro led East Union with nine kills and 10 blocks. Katelyn Trevino added eight kills and four blocks.
Jatziry Garcia contributed five kills and 22 digs. Gisele Velazquez turned in four kills and 24 digs. Meritiana Luani had three kills and 26 digs. Marcella Carrenza dished out 12 assists to go with 16 digs.
Lathrop 3, Los Banos 0
Elizabeth Andrade racked up 12 kills, 11 digs and four aces to propel host Lathrop (5-1, 9-3 overall) to a 25-12, 25-23, 25-20 Western Athletic Conference win.
ZaRyah Mageo added six kills, two blocks and two digs. Milyn Morales and Annabelle Obasuyi pitched in six and five kills, respectively.
Annie Millan delivered 19 assists to go with three aces. Julia Roaquin had 11 assists, and Justine Mabutas turned in five assists and 10 digs.
GIRLS GOLF
VOL Tournament 2
Paced by low medalist Hannah Hershbach’s 11-over 83 at Manteca Park Golf Course, Oakdale rolled to the tournament win with a 481.
East Union finished second as a team with a 564 score, and Manteca’s Emily Camara was tied for fifth individually with a 94.
Jessica Ingalls and Ariana Pale led East Union with a 95 and 96, respectively. Alizae Farias (106), Ava Gutierrez (126) and Gracie Kallstrom (141) rounded out the Lancers’ score.
Backing Camara for third-place Manteca (616) were Alexa Harris (113), Kylie Elliot (129), M.J. Alvarez (140) and Rebecca Navarro (140).
Sierra (663) took fourth behind Sydney Ladrido’s 116. Emma Basile (119), Lindsey Rose (132), Nikitha Muragangarajam (148) and Alyssa Suarez (148) also scored for the Timberwolves.
Mountain House 241, Lathrop 334
Ashlee Xu finished 4-over 40 for Mountain House in the WAC dual match at Manteca Park Golf Course.
Morgan Penko scored a 62 to lead Lathrop. Manjot Kaur (63), Mya Grisham (68), Ashley Yuuki (68) and Yadira Hernandez (73) also contributed for the Spartans.
GIRLS TENNIS
Sierra 8, East Union 1
The host Timberwolves swept in all of their victories in the VOL match.
Top singles player Navleen Dosanjh won 6-1, 6-2 and was backed by No. 3 Kimmely Mejia (6-1, 6-0), No. 4 Jaden Alton (6-2, 6-3), No. 5 Natalie Mejia (6-0, 6-0) and Sasha Martin (6-1, 6-0).
Jalyssa Molina earned the lone win for East Union, defeating Maryn Peterson 4-6, 7-6, 10-5 at No. 2 singles.
Winning doubles tandems for Sierra: No. 1 Manogna Veervalli/Munveer Dosanjh (6-1, 6-4), No. 2 Anste Bjerkholt/Dalie Elder (6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 Eliny Nguyen/Ella Chau (6-0, 6-2).
JV volleyball
Lathrop 2, Los Banos 0
The Spartans swept, 25-20, 25-17.
Angelina Ormeno produced four assists, three digs and two aces. Tatiana Lopez led the defense with seven digs. Shakara Porter added two kills, three digs and a block.
East Union 2, Oakdale 1
Host Oakdale staved off the Lancers, 25-15, 21-25, 15-9.
Jill Ramirez spearheaded EU with 12 assists, 16 service points and six aces. Shebra Rezaye doled out eight kills. Baily Ford registered seven kills and 12 digs. Gwen Barker contributed 12 digs and 18 serve-receive passes.
Frosh volleyball
Los Banos 2, Lathrop 1
The Tigers escaped Lathrop with a 25-21, 22-25, 15-10 victory.
Lathrop was paced by Rosemary Labaste’s five aces and four digs. Tamia Simmons contributed eight digs, and Viviana Salcedo had four assists and two digs.
Oakdale 2, East Union 0
The Lancers were swept on the road, 9-25, 18-25.
Kaylee Bruan led them with six service points, two aces and six assists. Jocelyn Pena also had six service points and two aces.
Addy Soulier, Jenna Holdren and Chantell Ochoa collected four digs apiece.
