Lathrop High’s boys soccer team has a challenging closing stretch to the Western Athletic Conference season as it vies for one of three Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berths.

The Spartans took care of business on the road Wednesday despite giving up an early goal, coming back to dispatch Grace Davis of Modesto, 3-1.

Freshman Angel Barajas knotted it off an assist from Ociel Mora. Jesus Hernandez assisted both of Lathrop’s second-half goals, setting up Reyli Villalpando for the go-ahead and Oliver Hernandez for the late insurance score.

Freshman goalkeeper Josue Navarro notched seven saves in his return from an illness.

On Friday, the Lathrop (5-5-1 WAC, 7-10-4 overall) hosts third-place Johansen. They face Los Banos and Mountain House next week, two other teams on the postseason bubble.
