Back from a San Diego-area tournament, Lathrop’s ailing girls basketball team tipped off its Western Athletic Conference schedule with a lopsided 51-25 win at Ceres.
With five players out with sickness, junior guard Tatiana Lowery picked up the slack by knocking down six 3-pointers for the bulk of her game-high 19 points. The Spartans (9-6), who placed fourth in their division last week during the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic, held Ceres to single-digit scoring in every quarter. They led 27-12 at halftime.
Marissa Renteria scored 12 points for the host Bulldogs (4-10). Lathrop next welcomes Pacheco (11-5) on Thursday.
Ripon 49, Hilmar 29
Kailiee Inderbitzin and Gabby Delgado netted 13 and 12 points, respectively, while Makenzie Loechler pulled down 10 rebounds to go with her six points for the visiting Indians (6-7). They created separation with a 15-2 surge in the third quarter.
Vanessah Pince contributed nine points, and Shayla McKeon added seven rebounds.
Emily Cogswell fired 16 points for Hilmar (8-7).
East Union 55, Sonora 45
Taylor Snaer eclipsed the 30-point barrier for a second-straight game, torching visiting Sonora (9-6) for 31 while sinking four 3s.
Nylah Dyson made three 3s and finished with 14 points. Donnese Payne hauled in 13 rebounds and provided strong interior defense. East Union (12-4) pulled away with a 17-6 third quarter. The Lancers open the Valley Oak League season Thursday at Sierra.
Gracie Bearden led Sonora with 18 points, and Adeline Hanson had 14.
Manteca 49, Rodriguez 35
Four incoming transfers made their season debuts for Manteca.
Among them was Michailla Springs, who drilled three 3s en route to finishing with 13 points in the pre-league contest in Fairfield. Jada Ikharo also scored 13, while Kerena Malone chipped in with 10. Also debuting were Brianna Parker, Brea Vieira and Alana Bella.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Manteca 76, Tracy 48
Elijah Nelson paced a balanced effort for the host Buffaloes (12-4), collecting 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Evani Gaeta also tallied 17 points. Peyton Nieman contributed with 14, Noah Lyons had 10 and Santiago Sanders added eight points and six boards.
Manteca starts VOL action Friday against visiting Oakdale.
Turlock 63, Ripon 55
Down by 20 points at one point in the second half, visiting Ripon (3-11) were able to close the gap to four before running out of the steam in the final period.
Landon Gillespie led the Indians with 14 points and three 3s. Ty Herrin chipped in eight points and six rebounds. Logan Lefebvre also scored eight points, while 6-foot-5 center Colten Morino provided big minutes of the bench and had six points and six rebounds.
Ripon’s post players were able to limit 6-7 standout center Gavin Cox, who had just four points for Turlock (10-7). The Indians tip off TVL play tonight at home against Hilmar.

The Spartans took care of business in their first WAC meet of the season.
Earning points were Daniel Narvaez (106, forfeit), Jordan Comporato (113, fall), Malachi Gonzalez (132 (fall), Damian Ceja (145, fall), Nate Martinez (170, fall), Christian Erazo (220, forfeit) and Hector Meza (heavyweight, forfeit).

Kylee Donaldson highlighted the dual with a first-round pinfall at 150 pounds.
Brianna Felisco (106), Hailey Hedval (111), Thienny Pham (116), Evelynn Ramirez (131) and Simmerpreet Gill (160) all won via forfeit.
GIRLS SOCCER
Ripon Christian 1, Orestimba 1
The visiting Warriors (1-1-1, 3-5-3 overall) from Newman were able to salvage a Southern Athletic League draw thanks to a late penalty kick.
Ripon Christian (1-0-2, 7-2-4) pressured Orestimba’s back line in the final 10 minutes but could not break through for the winner. Freshman Alanna Blanco put away the Knights’ lone goal late in the second half off a feed from Hailey Henderson.
BOYS SOCCER
Sierra 3, Oakdale 1
The Timberwolves (1-0, 4-4 overall) kicked off their VOL season with a victory, getting two late goals from Jorge Reyes in the 60th and 76th minutes.
A.J. Paz put Sierra ahead with a goal in the 33rd minute. Diego Lopez provided two assists.

Kaitlyn Hedman made the game-winning shot with 7 seconds to go and finished with a team-high nine points. Nishitha Kadiyala pumped in eight points.
Manteca 54, Rodriguez 25
Kalaja Reese produced 14 points and eight rebounds, while Tamayah Valentine added 10 and seven in the Buffaloes’ one-sided road win.

Vincent Cardoza scored 11 points for Manteca, while Johan Perengeli had 10 in the non-league defeat.
Frosh girls basketball
Lathrop 29, Ceres 14
The Spartans overcame a sloppy start to win their WAC opener and improve to 4-0 in the season.
Kriselle Matela and Tatianna Lopez led the way with 11 and six points, respectively.

The Buffs jumped out to a commanding 14-3 first-quarter lead and did not look back.
Evan White anchored them with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jesus Gomez contributed 11 points and four rebounds. Jhadis Lucky had eight points, while Devon Richardson racked up 12 rebounds to go with his six points.
