Lathrop’s girls basketball team was held to just eight points in the second half Monday at Ceres, stumbling to its third defeat in four games, 40-33.
“We’re kind of Jekyll and Hyde right now,” Lathrop coach Dwayne Davis said.
His Spartans (5-3 Western Athletic Conference, 15-8 overall) started out well, building a 25-22 halftime lead.
“We’re playing a beautiful game defensively, and then we come down shooting and not sharing the ball,” Davis said. “Every time we’ve done that, we’ve lost.”
Freshman Jaleiyah Ray was a bright spot, as she scored a team-high 13 points along with four rebounds and three steals. Tatiana Lowery had six points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals. Shakara Porter accumulated 23 rebounds, five steals and five points.
Ceres (5-3, 14-7) was led by Sovannary Carter’s 10 points.
