ROUNDUP: Lathrop sweeps Mountain House, eyes playoff berth

MOUNTAIN HOUSE — Now at the midway point of its first season in the Western Athletic Conference, the Lathrop High girls volleyball team is on pace for the program’s first Sac-Joaquin Section playoff berth and single-season wins record following a 25-13, 25-16, 25-12 sweep of Mountain House on Thursday.
The Spartans (6-1 WAC, 8-3 overall) have swept all but one of their league opponents, with the lone loss coming against Beyer. Another six wins tops their current record of 13 set last year, and the top three in the WAC advance to the postseason.
Junior outside hitter Jahsita Fa’alii again had the hot hand for Lathrop, torching the Mustangs (3-4, 6-9) with 19 kills, seven aces and 12 digs. She rapped 23 kills Tuesday in a sweep of defending WAC champion Los Banos.
Karina Chavez also keyed the offense, turning in 30 assists and seven aces. Libero Krystal Tempra collected 23 digs and two aces, and Hailey Hunter had 12 digs.

Ripon 3, Hughson 1
RIPON — Ripon (4-1, 10-4) remains in sole possession of second place in the Trans Valley League after sweeping Hughson 25-17, 25-19, 25-16 on Wednesday.
Mia Van Lewen paced the Indians with 14 kills and nine digs. Rachel Sausedo contributed 15 assists to the attack, Alyssa Barrios had three blocks and Jordynn Russell served four aces.

Ripon Christian 3, Delhi 0
DELHI — The Knights (5-1, 10-7) came, saw and conquered in a routine 25-13, 25-8, 25-8 Southern League sweep.
Makenzie Miller got plenty of work in for as long as it lasted, finishing with eight kills, three aces and a block. Morgan Van Elderen added seven kills, three digs and 10 assists. Lauren Braga recorded five kills and five aces.
Emily Van Groningen also served five aces to go with four kills. Taylor Alger set 12 assists, while Taylor Anema contributed three blocks.

Central Catholic 3, Sierra 0
MODESTO — Abby Castillon rung up 17 kills, three aces and four digs, as the undefeated Raiders (5-0, 16-0) coasted to a 25-13, 25-15, 25-13 Valley Oak League win.
Dulce Cruz had six kills, two blocks and three digs to lead Sierra (0-5, 2-8). Ashlee Matteroli finished with nine digs and seven assists. Savannah Medina tallied four blocks.

GIRLS TENNIS
Central Catholic 6, Sierra 3
Sierra (3-4) had a chance to avenge a loss against the VOL’s second-place team.
The Timberwolves’ wins came from the No. 2, 3 and 4 singles spots. Nadia Petrovic swept Suzanne Manseau, 6-1, 6-1. Melanie Nguyen outlasted Joecellia Roberts, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Joyce Sebastian held off Anne Dunn, 6-3, 7-5.
Central Catholic (6-1, 8-2) got a big win from the No. 5 singles spot, as Isabella Naraghi prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 against Jasmine Sebastian. Sierra’s No. 2 doubles tandem of Bianca Dunga and Gedona Kelete fell short at No. 2 doubles, 2-6, 6-7 (7).
Raiders sophomore Colleen Ballatore beat reigning VOL singles champion Kaitlyn Rausa for a second time, 6-2, 6-0.

Manteca 9, Weston Ranch 0
STOCKTON — The Buffaloes (7-0, 11-0) started the second half of VOL play with a landslide victory.
Julia Tang routed Seline Boonen 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. No. 5 Navina Mann defeated Ekampreet Kaur 6-3, 6-1 in the closet match of the day.
Sahiba Kaur, Ellie Kim, Makenna Condit and No. 1 doubles Noeli Mercado/Melissa Poncini produced 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. Kerren Zou, Kalissa Martin/Yanki Ma and Isabella Huerta/Danielle Diaz all won, 6-0, 6-1.

Los Banos 9, Lathrop 0
LOS BANOS — Lathrop (2-4) had some competitive sets in the loss to the reigning WAC champion and 2017 SJS Division IV semifinalist on Wednesday.
Darlene Hoang (3-6, 0-6), Bernice Vilches (3-6, 0-6), Tammy Pham (4-6, 1-6), Harman Garcha (4-6, 1-6) and Kim Bareng (0-6, 4-6) threatened to force third sets. Shania Leyva/Amanda Fernandez (3-6, 2-6) and Jeanette Morales/Erin Vierra (3-6, 2-6) competed at doubles. The Spartans forfeited the third doubles match.

Lathrop 2, Mountain House 0
MOUNTAIN HOUSE — Lathrop (7-0, 8-3) tops the standings halfway through the league schedule after sweeping the Mustangs, 25-20, 25-15.
Krytle Sakay (two aces) and Sydney Hanks hammered four kills apiece to pace the Spartans. Anahy Serrano dished out 13 aces, and Desiree Ambatali picked up 10 digs and two aces.

MOUNTAIN HOUSE — The Spartans (4-3, 5-6) ran out of sweep in their comeback attempt, falling 25-27, 25-20, 15-6.
Natalie Sayasane led Lathrpp with eight assists and five digs. Samreen Bal (two aces) and Layla Pereira-Watson each had three kills.
