ROUNDUP: Lathrop topples Pacheco in volleyball, flag football WAC openers

Lathrop’s girls volleyball team held off Pacheco in three competitive sets on Monday to win its Western Athletic Conference opener on the road, 25-20, 25-23, 27-25.

Setter Ayden Petroff anchored the attack with 29 assists, nine kills and four aces to go with six digs. Outside hitters Erin Chunn (four aces, block, five digs) and Siliana Faataualofa (two aces, block, eight digs) hammered nine kills apiece.

Jadore Dixon came up with 19 digs along with three assists and two aces. Justine Mabutas added 13 digs and two assists.

Winners of four straight, the Spartans (1-0 WAC, 5-3 overall) will look to keep it rolling Thursday with a non-league home match against Linden.

 

FLAG FOOTBALL

Lathrop 28, Pacheco 6

In Los Banos, Faith Allen helped set the tone with a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown, and the Spartans (1-0, 6-1 overall) rolled to a comfortable win in their WAC opener.

Quarterback Luz De Luna hit Jaleiyah Ray and Aaliyah Thompson on 7- and 39-yard touchdown passes. Ray also scored on a 41-yard run.

Thompson led the defense with six tackles, a safety and five sacks.

 

GIRLS GOLF

Merced Invitational

Cameron Seefeldt finished 14-over par 86 at Merced Golf & Country Club on Monday, helping Ripon place fourth. The Indians netted a four-person score of 405, trailing Oakdale (351), El Capitan (393) and Hilmar (399).

Freshman Grace Ortmann contributed a 99 for Ripon, while Eve Toledo and Cailyn Young each scored a 110.

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 0

The Spartans took care of business, 25-16, 25-19.

Setters Alexza Bringas and Cassidy Fa’ali’i (three aces, kill) led them with eight assists each. Audrina Fisher paced the attack with six kills, and Breana Wiseman had three. Liliana Murillo spearheaded the back row with five digs.

Lathrop 18, Pacheco 0 

Aviahna Calderon had a hand in both touchdowns, running for one and throwing to Ailyn Alcaraz on a 23-yard gain for the other.

Jacquiline Avalos highlighted the defense with five tackles and four sacks in the shutout.

 

Frosh volleyball

Lathrop 2, Pacheco 0

Lathrop rolled to the 25021, 25-23 sweep behind the attacking triumvirate of Nehmah Belion (four kills, two aces), Zakia Booker (three kills, four aces) and Lanayah Denson (three kills, four aces).

Juliet Tara directed the offense with 10 assists to go with two service aces. Elia Dasalla pitched in three aces, two digs and an assist.
