ROUNDUP: Lathrop volleyball closes in on perfect regular season

Lathrop’s boys volleyball team is one match away from closing the regular season with a perfect record.

On Monday, the Spartans traveled to Los Banos steamrolled to a 25-7, 25-6, 25-7 victory. They host Grace Davis on Wednesday for their final Western Athletic Conference contest.

Lathrop is now 26-0 overall and already has its second straight league crown in hand at 14-0.

Tory Sumbler starred in the sweep, finishing with 25 assists, nine aces and four kills. Christian Green spearheaded the attack with nine kills. Jerico Santillan chipped in six kills, and Christopher Millan had five. Lucas Baluyut paced the defense with nine digs, while Diego Sanchez had eight.

WAC Championships

Victoria Guzman was the top performer from Lathrop in the conference finale last Friday and Saturday at Mountain House.

She earned an individual title in the 500-yard freestyle, took second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 400 freestyle relay. Guzman was also part of the 200 free relay team that earned a qualifying time for the Sac-Joaquin Section Trials. She has also made the Section meet in the 500 free and 400 free relay.

Alan de la Garza took first in the 100 breaststroke with a Section-qualifying time. He was also the 200 free runner-up. Camila de la Garza took second in both the 500 free and 200 free. She joined Guzman on the 200 free relay along with Jiana Sanchez and Hannah Steward. The 400 free quartet is comprised of Sophia Moreno, Sanchez, Guzman and de la Garza.

 

BOYS GOLF

Tracy Invitational

Chad Flory placed fifth individually, leading Ripon’s seventh-place team finish Monday at Tracy Golf & Country Club. The Trans-Valley League-leading Indians placed third with a 407, and their junior varsity team held its own with a 439 for seventh place out of 20.

Flory finished 2-over-par 74. He was followed by Trent Vink’s 78, Jacob Baird’s 82, Jeremie Little’s 84 and Gage Anderson’s 89. Bradley Reedy carded an 80 for the JV.

Castro Valley took the team title with a 368 anchored by four medalists, including Seth Saffell’s 2-under 70. St. Mary’s was the runner-up with a 400.

The Spartans (12-2 WAC, 16-4 overall) held on for the 28-26, 25-19 win.

Charles Reyes highlighted the attack with 16 assists and three aces. Alexander Vere added six kills and three aces. Caiden Wisnieski had five kills. Brandon Sanchez and Gabriel Andrade contributed six and five digs, respectively.
