ROUNDUP: Manteca drubs Del Campo in weekend boys hoops showcase

Manteca’s boys basketball team turned in a defensive gem against Javi Singh and Del Campo during the NorCal Sports TV Showcase at Capital Christian this past Saturday in Sacramento.

The Buffaloes gave up 17 points in the opening quarter but only 18 for the remaining three combined en route to a 52-34 thrashing.

The 6-foot-6 Singh averages around 20 pointers per game but was limited to 10. Del Campo hit a 3-pointer 15 seconds into the the fourth quarter but were held without a point for the next 7 minutes. The Cougars from Fair Oaks fell to 9-8.

“Phenomenal team defensive effort,” Manteca coach Jason Hitt said. He also credited Elijah Nelson for his individual defensive work on Sidhu.

Manteca (14-4) had balanced production across the board and was led by Noah Lyons’ 11 points. Peyton Nieman added nine points, five assists and three steals.

Ramesh Kabiri also scored nine points, while Santiago Sanders contributed eight points and seven rebounds. Micah Crawford had a hand in Manteca’s second-quarter burst with all seven his points of the game coming in that period.

The Buffs return to Valley Oak League play Wednesday at Sierra.

 

Lathrop 75, Grace Davis 27

Lathrop (3-0, 9-7 overall) traveled to Modesto and came away with a lopsided Western Athletic Conference victory.

Napoleon Reeves and Camryn Hayes each scored 13 points. Reeves also pulled down five rebounds.

Lathrop also won the JV game handily, 82-30. The freshman squad also prevailed, 52-41.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

East Union 1, Oakdale 1

The Lancers (0-1-1 Valley Oak League, 3-8-3 overall) picked up a big point on the road against an unbeaten squad.

Oakdale (1-0-1, 9-0-1) jumped ahead in the opening minutes, and Jenna Campbell answered with the equalizer on a direct kick late in the game.

Goalie Maddy Miske came through for 12 saves and was supported by a back line led by Carerra Mendez. Chloe Silva and Gabrielle McIntosh anchored the midfield and helped create scoring chances.

“As tough as this league is this year, every point counts,” EU coach Jason Silva said. It’s always tough playing in Oakdale. Now, we have something to build on as we prepare for Sierra on Wednesday.”

 

Kimball 6, Sierra 1

A tied game at halftime, host Kimball (2-0-0 VOL, 4-1-2 overall) rallied for five unanswered goals in the second half.

The Timberwolves (0-2-0 VOL, 7-6-0) were limited to just five shot attempts. Goalie Annika Beall collected 10 saves.
