ROUNDUP: Manteca overcomes slow start, Lincoln for 11th straight volleyball win

Manteca’s girls volleyball team ran its early-season win streak to 11 on Thursday with a 22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-14 non-league win over visiting Lincoln of Stockton.

Abbey Kadillak led the way with 33 digs, 14 service points and five aces. Setterl Arielle Chandler collected 37 assists and 10 points. Adrianna Powell pounded out a team-high 14 kills to go with 16 digs. Karlie Spohn contributed 13 kills and five blocks.

Others with a hand in the win were Camrenne Genilla (eight kills, 13 points), Izabella Sanchez (eight blocks, two kills) and Leilani Rios (five kills, two blocks).



Manteca 6, Weston Ranch 3

The Buffaloes (1-1 Valley Oak League, 1-2 overall) dominated at the top of the ladder, as Katie Kim (6-0, 6-0), Emma Ngo (6-0, 6-0), Christina Nguyen (6-0, 6-1) and Jenna Poncini (6-0, 6-0) took care of business.

The No. 5 and 6 singles matches went to host Weston Ranch. Jolette Jaramillo (6-2, 6-0) won the No. 5 match, while Ella Nykanen edged out Simar Mann, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 11-9.

Manteca took the first two doubles matches with Eva Pasion/Perla Ramirez (6-1, 6-0) and Lupe Mercado/Parmdeep Toor Kaur (6-4, 6-0) getting the wins. Allegra Rios and Manvir Kaur (6-2, 6-2) won the No. 3 match for the Cougars.


Central Catholic 9, Sierra 0

Mianna Robinson locked down the shutout for the visiting Raiders, winning the No. 3 singles match 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 against Tanya Sharma.

At No. 4 singles, Sierra’s Brisa Gonzalez nearly forced a third set but came up short against Maria Freitas, 1-6, 6-7 (3). Katherine Juarez took the No. 1 singles match 3-6, 2-6 over Caitlin Morrow.


Lathrop 7, Pacheco 2

The Spartans more than made up for the absence of one of their top players in the Western Athletic Conference match.

The best-contested contest took place on the No. 1 singles court, as Iris Garcia pulled out a 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 win over Lathrop’s Godwina Ogbeide. The Panthers also prevailed in the No. 2 match won by Elizabeth Gonzalez (6-2, 6-3).

Lathrop swept the rest of the individual matches and won No. 3 doubles via forfeiture. Madilynn Romero (6-1, 6-2), Justice Pacheco Seward (6-1, 6-3), Suhani Banwait (6-0, 6-1), Janelle Lat (6-0, 6-2), Keziah Boateng/Maritza Mejia (6-0, 6-2) and Rachel BoatengTaimane Lowery (6-0, 6-1) contributed to the Spartans’ win.

Manteca 2, Lincoln 0

The Buffaloes swept past visiting Lincoln, 25-14, 25-16.

Emily Inderbitzin led the stingy defensive effort with eight digs, while Rayana Ladd contributed five. Danielle Grabowski tallied 11 service points, and Ava Negranza had four aces. Setter Araceli Rubio finished with six assits.


Frosh volleyball

Manteca 2, Lincoln 0

Bella Medina helped key the Buffaloes’ 25-12, 25-19 victory with her all-around play that included three assists and an ace.

Amil Gaskin fired three kills. Rylee Eberle and Ariel Le La O each had three aces.
