Manteca had a chance to avenge its lone loss of the season and secure the outright Valley Oak League championship Monday at Oakdale but was defeated, 3-1.
Kyndra Obermeyer scored twice for the host Mustangs (6-2-2 VOL, 15-6-3 overall), who earned a share of the title. She helped change the game with her first goal in the 39th minute, and Oakdale doubled the lead in the opening minutes of the second half.
“Disappointing because we dominated the first 20 minutes or so, but toward the end (of the half) they got that in and came out scored right away in the second half. That was rough,” Manteca coach Justin Coenenberg said. “The girls kept fighting, it was just tough to recover from that.”
Manteca (6-2-2, 21-2-3) finally got on board when Sienna Jones scored on an assist from Kailee Jackson. Oakdale ended the late threat with the insurance goal on a corner kick.
The two VOL champions begin the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs on Saturday.

The Spartans (9-4-1, 15-7-4 overall) snapped a three-game losing skid, winning their Western Athletic Conference finale. They’re on their way to their second straight postseason appearance after placing second in the WAC.
“It’s good to get back on the winning column,” Lathrop coach Alfredo Reynaga said. “Hopefully this gives us a little momentum for the playoffs.”
Lathrop was in control at Mountain House (4-8-2, 5-14-4) but did not get the upper hand until scoring on a second-half set piece. Carlos Santos booted a free kick just outside the penalty box, and Ociel Mora won the loose ball and touched it to Alan Hernandez for the goal.
